Simultaneously appealing and addictive, Jack O’Neill’s “Weight of the World” projects the electrifying energy of full-blown pop-rock.” - Randy Radic

Jack O'Neill is an actor, singer-songwriter, and co-founder of Jackopierce -- the Texas-born duo that spent three decades building one of indie rock's most devoted followings. Based in New York City, he is SAG-AFTRA/AEA.

The son of an army paratrooper and a classically trained pianist, O'Neill grew up moving through army towns across the American South before landing in NYC, where he trained at Southern Methodist University's BFA Theater program on scholarship. That outsider's eye -- always the new kid, always watching -- became the engine of everything he writes.

As co-founder of Jackopierce, O'Neill has recorded and toured for over 35 years, sharing stages with Dave Matthews Band, Sheryl Crow, Counting Crows, Rob Thomas, John Mayer, and Toad the Wet Sprocket, among others. The band's songs have been produced by T-Bone Burnett (Academy Award and Grammy winner), John Fields (Jonas Brothers, Pink), and Stan Lynch (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers). Jackopierce performed original music on Late Night with Conan O'Brien backed by Max Weinberg and the Max Weinberg 7, and played the Blockbuster RockFest in front of nearly 500,000 people.

His solo work -- including the 2025 album North Star, produced by J. Michael Smith at Sunland Studio in Dallas -- pushes further into the personal. Cinematic and spare, part bedroom confessional and indie-rock attitude, sharp and literate, with equal shades of humor and pathos. Stories about good people trying to do their best in a turbulent world.

As an actor, O'Neill was a member of The Bats, the resident acting company at The Flea Theater in NYC under director Jim Simpson. His theater credits include world premieres of plays by A.R. Gurney, Kate Robin, and Len Jenkins. He has since returned to the stage and screen, booking network television and short films, and currently works at the Master level in Bob Krakower's acting workshop. His voice has powered campaigns for Cadillac, Bass Beer, and Nikon.

He writes about all of it -- the music, the craft, the people who make it possible -- at stargatecommando.substack.com.
